Terms of service
These are the terms you agree to when you use Scope. They are written to be read, so they are short and in plain English.
Who you are dealing with
Scope is a service of Welch Marketing Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 13328901. Registered office: Fifth Floor, 167-169 Great Portland Street, London, W1W 5PF.
You can reach a person at hello@scopefortrades.co.uk. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Welch Marketing Ltd, and "you" means the business holding the Scope account.
What Scope does, and what it does not do
Scope prices a job from the rates you set, and there are two ways the quantities reach it. For roofing, Scope measures the building from Ordnance Survey data, so you get a price without anyone going up a ladder. For every other trade, you type in the measurements you took on site and Scope prices those.
Which one you used changes what the document says, and the document says so itself: work Scope measured goes out as an estimate, and work you measured goes out as a quote.
An estimate is not a survey. Scope measures the footprint of a building from national mapping data and works upward from it. It has never seen the roof. It cannot see condition, it cannot see what is under the covering, and there are parts of a roof it does not measure at all and tells you so on the estimate itself. Treat every figure as a starting point for a quote, never as a substitute for going and looking.
The confidence range on each estimate is our honest description of how much the measurement could move. It is not a guarantee, and a real roof can fall outside it.
A quote is only as good as your measurements. Where you type the measurements in, Scope does the arithmetic and nothing else. It has not seen the job and cannot check your figures, so there is no confidence range on a quote and none is implied. The quantities on it are yours.
The price you send is your price
You set your rates. Scope does the arithmetic and puts your number in front of you before you send anything. When you send an estimate or a quote to a customer, you are quoting them, we are not. The contract for the work is between you and them, and we are not part of it.
That means checking the figure before it goes out is your job, and it is the reason nothing sends by itself. If a price is wrong, for any reason including a fault in Scope, it is still the price you gave your customer.
Your account
Keep your password to yourself, and tell us promptly if you think somebody else has it. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you.
One account is for one business. Your whole team can use it. What you cannot do is share it with another business, resell access, or run it as a service for firms that are not yours.
Credits, and what a credit buys
Scope is £49 a month including VAT, and that includes 25 credits a month.
Credits are only for buildings Scope measures. Typing in your own measurements does not use a credit, and there is no limit on how many quotes you write that way. If your trade is one Scope does not measure, the 25 credits are simply not something you will spend.
A credit buys a property, not an estimate. The first time you price a building, that costs one credit. After that the same building is free for you, for ever. Re run it, change the job type, edit your rates, quote it again two years later: no further credit. That is deliberate, because a roofer who prices a house three times before winning it should pay once.
Unused credits stay in your account. They do not expire and they do not reset at the end of the month.
If you go past your credits we let you continue a little way rather than stop you in front of a customer, and we tell you clearly each time. That grace is something we offer, not something you can rely on.
Paying, and stopping
The trial is 14 days and needs no card. Nothing is charged when it ends and no subscription starts on its own: Scope simply stops pricing new jobs, and everything you have already sent stays where it is. You start paying only when you choose to enter a card, and from that day it renews monthly until you stop it.
You can cancel at any time, from your account, and you keep access until the end of the month you have paid for. We do not refund part months, and we do not charge an exit fee. If a payment fails we will tell you and try again before anything is cut off.
Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach us. If we change the price we will tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you, and cancelling in that window is always an option.
Referrals
If somebody signs up with your code and stays a paying customer, you earn £25. It becomes payable 30 days after their first payment, which is there to cover refunds and chargebacks rather than to delay you.
The rules are the obvious ones. Referring yourself does not count, nor do accounts you control, and neither does signing people up who never intended to use Scope. We review referrals before paying them and we can withhold a reward we believe is not genuine. If we do that, we will tell you why.
The mapping data
The building data behind every measurement is licensed from Ordnance Survey, and our licence lets us show it to you inside Scope for the job you are pricing. You may use what Scope produces to quote and carry out your work.
You may not extract, copy or rebuild the underlying mapping data, or use Scope to assemble a dataset of buildings. That is not us being precious: it is a condition of the licence that lets Scope exist at all.
What we owe you if something goes wrong
We will keep Scope running properly and fix what breaks. We cannot promise it is never down, never wrong, and never unavailable when you need it, and no software can.
If we are at fault, what we owe you is capped at what you paid us in the 12 months before the problem. We are not liable for work you priced wrongly, jobs you lost, or profit you did not make. Given what you pay us, that is the only honest position, and it is why the clause above puts checking the figure with you.
Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer rather than a business, your statutory rights are unaffected.
Ending it
You can close your account whenever you like. We can close yours if you break these terms, do not pay, or use Scope in a way that puts the mapping licence or other customers at risk. Except where something serious has happened, we will give you notice and a chance to put it right first.
When an account closes we keep your estimates for a short period so you can ask for a copy, then delete them. The privacy notice sets out how long.
Changes to these terms
If we change anything that affects you, we will tell you by email before it takes effect. Carrying on using Scope after that means you accept the change. If you would rather not, cancel, and we will refund the unused part of the month.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales deal with any dispute.
